In new study, it was revealed that New York is the riskiest state for commuters, with an incredible 317% increase in public transport incidents compared to the national average.

What does that mean? That means, there is a rate of over 230 instances per 100,000 residents. That is a reason for concern when it comes to public transportation in the Empire State.

The research, carried out by personal injury lawyers, looked into data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to find out what states have the highest risk when it comes to public transportation.

New York Public Transportation Perils

When all was said and done, New York was number one in a category that you don't want to be number one in. The Empire State far exceeded the national average for public transportation accidents. Since 2010, a staggering 45,732 incidents, that includes collisions, injuries, and fatalities, have taken place in the state.

Illinois claimed the second spot as the most dangerous state for public transport, with a rate of nearly 165 incidents per 100,000 people. Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland round out the top five riskiest states for commuters using public transport, showing higher-than-average rates of accidents, collisions, and fatalities.

When it comes to public transportation, certain states, especially New York has it own set of risks. With a large number accidents happening in the past ten years, it's important that transportation agencies address these safety concerns and provide safer travel for New Yorkers and the rest of the US.
