If you live in New York and haven’t filed your taxes yet, you’re not alone, but here’s the reality. Tax Day is one week from today (Wednesday, April 15th), and a lot of people are still putting it off.

A Lot of People Wait Until the Last Minute

A new report found that almost 30 percent of Americans admit they wait until the last minute when it comes to filing their taxes. That means nearly one in three people are waiting longer than they probably should. And with the deadline next Wednesday, April 15th, that pressure is really starting to build.

Many People Still Don’t Feel Ready

Even now, plenty of people don’t feel prepared to file. About 22 percent say they still don’t feel ready to get everything done this year. If that sounds like you, it makes sense. Taxes can be confusing, time-consuming, and easy to push off until later.

Stress Is a Big Part of It

It’s not just about time. It’s also about how taxes make people feel. Around 60 percent of people say filing taxes is stressful. That alone is enough to make anyone avoid it for as long as possible. But waiting too long can make that stress even worse, especially with the deadline just days away.

Some Are Turning to AI for Help

More people are starting to use AI to help with their taxes. About one in five say they plan to use it this year. For some, it’s a way to get quick answers or feel more confident before filing.
