Have you ever wondered what happened to the building that used to occupy the Village Train & Hobby Shop after Jeff Olin, the owner, decided to retire in 2022?

Good news, the building has been brought back to life and is now occupied by a thrift store called Stretching Dollars. It was purchased by Lisa and Roger Wilson after an idea Lisa’s sister had. Dawn and I recently visited and left with clothing, picture frames, shoes, decorations for our daughter, Tara’s wedding, and some sweets to travel home with.

Stretching Dollars Grand Re-Opening

Stretching Dollars has been open since they took over the store but they will be having their grand re-opening this Saturday, June 21st from 12 to 2 p.m. There will be basket raffles, spinning wheel for prizes, and all kinds of specials throughout the day. Every nook and cranny is filled with treasures galore and they have something for everyone. During the “grand re-opening” 50% of their proceeds will be going to a very worthy local organization, the Wagon Train Warriors.

Wagon Train Warriors Collecting Donations

The Wagon Train Warriors will also be there collecting donations of new hygiene products, and any suitcases you might have that are no longer needed. They will be collecting donations of bottled water, snacks, and take out containers, and of course monetary donations are always welcome.

Who Are The Wagon Train Warriors

The Wagon Train Warriors are a local group of volunteers located in Binghamton, New York and they deliver essential goods to homeless people on the streets. They pull wagons around Broome County to deliver these items, and meet the people in the community, whether they are under bridges or in the streets.

They give them food, clothing, and hygiene products. People in need can pick what products they would like, free of charge. The Wagon Train Warriors also host meals free of charge to those in need on Mondays and Tuesdays at the American Legion Post 80 on Main Street in Binghamton.

Stretching Dollars will be donating 50% of their proceeds during the grand re-opening to the Wagon Train Warriors. You can find out more about the Wagon Train Warriors and the good they do in our community here.

Stretching Dollars is located at 191 Main St, Windsor and is open WED-FRI 10-4 Sat 9-3 CLOSED Sun-Tues. Please come out and support this much needed charity and our community this Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m.
