The New York State Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory for motorists who plan to travel State Route 17 eastbound from the Town of Owego in Tioga County to the Village of Endicott in Broome County.

A temporary overnight closure on Route 17 eastbound is scheduled to take place starting on Thursday, July 11 at 11:30 p.m. and is expected to reopen on Friday, July 12 at 6 a.m. This road closure is essential to address and repair damaged guiderails, ensuring the safety of all travelers.

During the closure, a clearly marked detour will be implemented. Drivers heading eastbound on State Route 17 will be redirected to State Route 434 at Exit 65 in Owego, proceeding on to State Route 26 northbound in Vestal before rejoining State Route 17 eastbound at Exit 67 in Endicott.

Please be aware that construction activities are subject to change based on weather conditions and other unforeseen factors. Motorists are advised to anticipate travel delays and incorporate additional travel time into their schedules.

As a reminder, it is strongly encouraged for drivers to exercise caution and adhere to reduced speed limits in work zones. In these areas, fines for speeding violations are doubled, and multiple infractions could lead to the suspension of an individual's driver's license. It is important to maintain a safe and responsible approach when navigating through construction zones, showing consideration for the safety of highway workers and fellow road users.
