The search for the man sought in the killing of two Binghamton residents has shifted from South Carolina to Florida.

50-year-old Scott C. Mitchell has been identified as a suspect in last week's double homicide on the West Side of Binghamton.

Mitchell is wanted in connection with the deaths of 58-year-old Daniel McCloe and 55-year-old Marshall VanOven. Their bodies were found at a private residence last Tuesday.

Binghamton police on Saturday said Mitchell was wanted for questioning in the case. He was described as "armed and dangerous."

A 2011 Chevrolet Impala linked to Mitchell was found abandoned early Saturday afternoon in Dorchester County, South Carolina.

Authorities in that area - northwest of Charleston - began searching for Mitchell after the car was discovered.

The latest development in the case came Tuesday afternoon when the sheriff's office in Volusia County, Florida announced that its deputies were "actively looking for" Mitchell.

The agency's alert to the public indicated Mitchell was "in a vehicle but is now believed to be on foot, possibly in the West DeLand area." The statement indicated the vehicle had been recovered.
