A Tioga County building that's been home to a series of manufacturing businesses over the last few decades is about to be busy again.

The building at 941 Route 38 in the town of Owego was constructed for SCI Systems in 1987.

The property was acquired by Adam Weitsman for $3 million in December 2021.

Weitsman has announced that SureScan Corporation of Binghamton has entered into a multiyear lease to use most of the 163,000-square-foot building.

Weitsman previously told WNBF News that final discussions were underway on the proposed lease. He said the arrangement with SureScan will allow overnight parking at the site for trucks used by his neighboring Upstate Shredding business.

In a news release issued Monday, Weitsman said the company initially plans to employ 50 to 60 people at the site. He said employment at the Owego location is expected to "climb to 100 jobs when the company is fully up and running."

SureScan makes airport baggage screening equipment. In his announcement, Weitsman said SureScan has contracts with multiple airports and needed space to expand.

SureScan president Jeffrey Hamel could not be reached to comment on the company's decision to set up the Tioga County manufacturing operation.

SureScan this month announced it would provide 24 checkpoint property screening systems to an airport in Las Vegas.

According to SureScan's website, the company's baggage scanner "produces high-resolution 3D images" for use at airport passenger screening stations.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
