A man has admitted he attacked a woman during a dispute near their Binghamton residence.

Prosecutors said 39-year-old Michael Davis pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in connection with the daytime stabbing incident that occurred October 22.

Davis entered his plea in Broome County Court. Under the plea deal, Davis is to be sentenced to seven years in state prison.

Investigators said a 25-year-old woman was stabbed repeatedly in the attack near 5 Colfax Avenue. She sustained multiple wounds to the face.

Police at the time said although Davis and the woman were living in the same residence, they were "not in a domestic relationship."

Detectives said Davis had violated an order of protection issued by Binghamton City Court as a result of the violent dispute.

Davis was taken into custody near the scene of the stabbing. Authorities did not describe the weapon used in the attack.

In addition to the prison time, Davis is to be sentenced five years of post-release supervision. Sentencing has been scheduled for March 3.
