Binghamton Man Named as Suspect in West Side Double Homicide
Binghamton police are looking for a suspect in connection with the killing of two city men whose bodies were found at a West Side residence.
Authorities late Saturday afternoon announced 50-year-old Scott C. Mitchell of Binghamton is wanted for questioning.
In a news release, detectives said Mitchell is a suspect in the killings of 58-year-old Daniel McCloe and 55-year-old Marshall VanOven. They said Mitchell should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police have said McCloe and VanOven were acquaintances. Separate missing person reports were filed for the men Monday evening.
Investigators said detectives discovered "two deceased individuals" at a private residence on Binghamton's West Side the following day.
People with information about the whereabouts of Scott Mitchell may contact the city police detective bureau at (607) 772-7080.
Police have revealed very little information about the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Autopsies were completed on Thursday. Investigators on Friday said a forensic pathologist had determined that "the manner of death for both men is homicide." But the cause of death was not made public.
It appears Mitchell may have traveled from Binghamton to South Carolina. An urgent bulletin was issued by the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office in that state after an abandoned vehicle linked to the suspect was found around 2 p.m. Saturday.
The agency said its investigators were in the process of obtaining search warrants for the 2011 Chevrolet Impala.
Dorchester is about 50 miles northwest of Charleston, South Carolina.
