Binghamton Police in West Side Neighborhood After 2 Bodies Found
Detectives continued to search a home on Binghamton's West Side as they investigate the deaths of two missing men whose bodies were discovered after they had been reported missing.
Crime scene tape remained in place around the single-family house on Westwood Court, a cul-de-sac with 16 homes.
A city police department truck, along with patrol units and unmarked vehicles were parked along the street late Thursday afternoon.
Police at the scene did not comment on the status of the investigation into the deaths of 55-year-old Marshall VanOven and 58-year-old Daniel McCloe.
Detectives said the Binghamton men were acquainted with each other. Separate missing person reports for VanOven and McCloe were filed with city police on Monday evening.
In a brief statement released late Wednesday afternoon, police said detectives went to a West Side address "where two deceased individuals were located within a private residence."
The detective bureau news release said "the deaths are being considered suspicious in nature." Authorities have said there's "an ongoing criminal investigation" into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The house where investigators were focusing their attention is a short distance north of the former St. Thomas Aquinas School. The building now is being used as a child care center.
