Broome County Habitat for Humanity to Build First Two-Family Home
The next construction project for Broome County Habitat for Humanity will be a duplex residence in Johnson City.
The site on Spruce Street will become home for two families. The village planning board this week approved the site plan for the project.
Lateisha Judge, executive director of the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, said the duplex will be the first of its kind for the Broome County organization.
Judge told WNBF News that all of the needed approvals for the project have been granted by Johnson City.
Habitat for Humanity acquired the vacant land for the project just over a year ago.
The village code enforcement department will review blueprints for the house before construction work gets underway.
Work is continuing on another Habitat project in Johnson City. Volunteers are busy building a single-family house on West Street in the village. It will be a two-story three-bedroom home.
Some of the lumber used in the construction of that house has a Broome County connection. It came from the 2023 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree that was donated by a Vestal family.
The tree - which was in the spotlight in Manhattan just over a year ago - was milled to provide wood for the Johnson City project.
