Drivers gearing up for one of the busiest travel weeks of the year should be prepared to encounter additional police patrols on the road. To ensure road safety, local law enforcement agencies have announced the deployment of extra patrols from now through this weekend.

The primary objective of these intensified patrols is to crack down on impaired driving, with a focus on keeping all travelers safe as they make their way to their holiday destinations. The message is clear—plan ahead and make responsible choices because lives depend on those choices.

Broome County District Attorney, Paul Battisti, has joined forces with local law enforcement agencies to bring attention to the dangers associated with driving under the influence. Thanksgiving, known for being one of the most high-risk times of the year in terms of impaired driving incidents, has prompted this proactive measure to safeguard the community.

Recent statistics from Broome County have revealed a troubling uptick in DWI cases over the past couple of weeks, including accidents that have come perilously close to causing fatalities. Battisti has emphasized the urgency of the situation and announced a series of initiatives to address the issue head-on.

Beginning today, drivers can expect to see an increased police presence on the roads, a rise in sobriety checkpoints, and heightened awareness campaigns relating to DWI prevention. Battisti's message is straightforward—have a plan in place, whether it's utilizing a ride-sharing service, appointing a designated driver, or reaching out to authorities if you suspect someone is driving under the influence.
