Demolition Ahead for Fire-Damaged Endicott Homes
Two houses in an Endicott neighborhood that were heavily-damaged by multi-alarm fires likely will be torn down.
The fires on Fillmore Avenue and Parsons Avenue occurred about 16 hours apart.
Both blazes spread quickly through each building. Endicott firefighters were assisted by neighboring departments at both scenes.
Village fire chief Joseph Griswold on Monday said he expects that both houses will eventually be demolished because of the extent of the damage each sustained. But it's uncertain when they'll be torn down.
Griswold told WNBF News it likely will be up to the insurance companies involved to determine when demolition of the structures will occur.
The first fire occurred last Tuesday afternoon in a two-family house at 106 Fillmore Avenue. Active electrical arcing on the outside of the structure was observed when firefighters arrived at the scene.
The next blaze erupted early Wednesday morning in a single-family structure at 5 Parsons Avenue.
Investigators determined the Fillmore Avenue fire was electrical in origin. The official cause of the Parsons Avenue fire has not been announced.
No injuries were reported as a result of the two fires. The incidents were unrelated, although the two houses that were destroyed by the blazes are only steps apart.
