Grippen Park in Endicott to Be “Rebranded” When It Reopens
A $4.3 million improvement project at Broome County's Grippen Park is nearing completion.
The original ice rink building at the facility on Grippen Avenue in Endicott has been renovated.
A new roof and floor surface were installed. Ice-making equipment, which had been damaged by previous flooding at the park, was not replaced.
County Executive Jason Garnar said the park will now be known as Grippen Community Park. He said the "rebranding" is being done to reflect all of the work that's been done "to make it a park that can be enjoyed by the whole community."
Garnar told WNBF News "we've done a lot of different things" with the park, which previously had seen rather limited use in recent years.
The renovated park is scheduled to officially open on June 18.
Three Broome Bands Together concerts are scheduled to be held at Grippen this year. They'll be held on Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m.
The first concert on June 19 will feature Beard of Bees. The second is to be held on July 17 with a performance by Dirt Farm. The third concert is scheduled for August 14 featuring A Country Mile.
Garnar said one planned upgrade that won't be completed when the park opens is a trail extension to connect Grippen with the county-owned Roundtop Picnic Area to the east.
Five pickleball courts, a basketball court, a wiffle ball stadium and a flag football field will be added to the park.
