Walk-A-Thon Set to Make a Difference for Southern Tier Children’s Charities
The Matthews Auto Group has announced the 6th Annual Matthews Walk-A-Thon. This event benefits eleven children's charities in various cities, including Binghamton, Syracuse, Rochester, Norwich, Schenectady New York, and Scranton Pennsylvania.
The 6th Annual Matthews Walk-A-Thon is set to take place on Saturday, October 5. The event will run from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Vestal Rail Trail and at Weiler Park in Norwich.
Additionally, for those who cannot attend physically, a virtual option is available, allowing walkers from different locations to participate virtually via Matthewswalkathon.com.
In Binghamton, charities such as Mom’s House, A Room to Heal, Handicapped Children’s Association, Guthrie Hospice Vestal’s Camp Hope for Kids, and GiGi’s Playhouse will benefit from the Walk-A-Thon. Other charities in cities like Syracuse, Rochester, Schenectady, Norwich, and Scranton PA are also part of this noble initiative.
Matthews Auto will donate $10 per mile walked by registered participants (up to $75,000). They will also match cash donations up to $12,500, resulting in a maximum donation of $100,000. Participants can choose one charity or divide their donation equally among the eleven charities.
Participants can register in advance or on the day of the event at specified locations. Complimentary Walk-A-Thon T-Shirts will be distributed at the Vestal Rail Trail while supplies last. Matthews will allocate up to $100,000 to charities based on the miles walked and votes received during registration.
Since its inception in 2019, the Walk-A-Thon has donated over $339,798 to local children’s charities. This year, the goal of hitting the $100,000 mark in donations signifies the dedication and generosity of all participants and donors.
