Mercy House of the Southern Tier Breaks Ground for $2 Million Expansion To Enhance End of Life Care
Mercy House of the Southern Tier recently celebrated the groundbreaking of its highly-anticipated $2 million expansion project, marking a significant milestone in its mission to provide compassionate care for terminally ill patients and their families during life's most challenging moments.
The expansion of Mercy House, set to enhance the facility's capacity, includes the construction of six new resident rooms, each thoughtfully designed with private bathrooms to uphold the values of privacy and dignity.
Since its inauguration in 2016, Mercy House, situated at 212 N. McKinley Avenue in Endicott, has been a beacon of warmth and end-of-life care for over 1,230 residents. With the new expansion, Mercy House aims to address the increasing demand for high-quality care, offering both residents and their families enhanced space and resources to navigate this sensitive journey with support and comfort.
Linda Cerra, the Executive Director of Mercy House of the Southern Tier, expressed gratitude towards their hospice partner, Guthrie Hospice of Vestal, along with the Guthrie and UHS Palliative Care teams, Broome Oncology, BGH PCU, and Endwell Family Physicians. Their unwavering support ensures that residents receive the utmost compassionate end-of-life care, embodying the core values of Mercy House.
The success of this visionary project has been made possible through both grants and generous community contributions. Major supporters of the expansion initiative include Broome County's Small Community Fund, the Decker Foundation, the Lourdes Foundation, the Mee Foundation, the Put God First Foundation, Security Mutual Life Insurance Company, Tioga Downs Regional Foundation, and Tioga County Senior Foundation.
To meet the remaining financial requirements for the expansion, Mercy House has initiated a $600,000 Community Donor Campaign, welcoming donations through its website. Every contribution is a step towards ensuring that Mercy House can continue to provide invaluable care and comfort to individuals facing terminal illnesses.
Mercy House of the Southern Tier stands as a sanctuary that offers not just palliative care but a compassionate extended family to those in the final chapter of their journey. Through their dedication to dignity and empathy, Mercy House transforms end-of-life experiences into moments filled with respect and understanding.
