$10,000 Reward Posted in Binghamton Double Homicide Investigation
Binghamton police have announced a reward now is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the city resident suspected of killing two men on the West Side.
According to a news release from the detective bureau, the $10,000 reward is being offered by Binghamton police and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in Florida.
50-year-old Scott C. Mitchell of Binghamton is wanted for murder in connection with the deaths of Daniel McCloe and Marshall VanOven.
Investigators have said the 58-year-old McCloe and 55-year-old VanOven were acquaintances.
Police believe the men were killed by Mitchell on February 3. Their bodies were found at a West Side home the following day.
Officials in Deland, Florida alerted residents of that area Tuesday afternoon that Mitchell apparently had been in a vehicle in Volusia County.
The vehicle was recovered and investigators believe Mitchell was somewhere in the region on foot.
The announcement of the reward also included the new information that Mitchell apparently had shaved his beard as of Monday.
Although the deaths of McCloe and VanOven have been ruled homicide, police will not discuss how they died or their relationship with Mitchell.
People with information about the whereabouts of Scott Mitchell may contact the Binghamton police detective division at (607) 772-7080 or the Volusia County Sheriff's Office at (386) 943-7866.
