New York residents who purchased fresh produce at Walmart and Aldi stores should be aware of a recent major recall due to potential listeria contamination.

The FDA recently announced that Wiers Farm Inc. has expanded its voluntary recall of certain produce items sold at select stores in Ohio, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The recall was made out of an abundance of caution, as no illnesses have been reported. The produce involved in this expanded recall was packed between July 5-12.

Consumers who have purchased any of the affected products should discard them immediately, as listeria can cause serious or sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Listeria can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Any customer who has consumed the affected products and are experiencing symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues should seek medical attention.
